Now that the devastation of the Beast from the East, Storm Emma and a record 262500+ happy racegoers have headed away from Prestbury Park I can reflect on the enormity of what was achieved to deliver this year's running of the 2018 Festival.
As we all know the four days of The Festival are the culmination of more than a year's planning and preparations and the benefits of this excellent work became more than apparent when we were challenged ten days out by the extraordinary weather conditions. My long lasting memory of the 2018 Festival won't be about the brilliant customer service throughout, the excellent behind the scenes delivery to ensure a safe event, the ever improved tented village, the wonderful racing on the track, the dynamic car parking delivery throughout the event or indeed all the other components required to deliver such an enjoyable experience for our racegoers. However my 2018 Festival 'take away' will be the incredible
Thank you. Roll on 12th March 2019.
Best wishes Tim
Well, the final Danco marquees lorry left the showground last week, so another Show over, the grass is being cut and the one or two really bad ruts have been filled with soil and re'seeded.
There are many good memories for this year's Show and the one that will stand out, was having the pleasure of hosting our President, HRH The Countess of Wessex for two whole days and it included attending the Stockmen's Supper on Thursday evening, which she thoroughly enjoyed! Her Royal Highness visited nearly all the sections of the Show and each one greeted her with such pride and enthusiasm, keen to show her around their respective areas. In return, Her Royal Highness showed such interest in everything she saw and everyone she met.
Mentioning pride and enthusiasm leads me on to congratulate the Devon County Show Stewards on achieving the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS). The QAVS is the equivalent to an MBE and is recognition of commitment to ' and passion for - the Devon County Show and the time they give so willingly and voluntarily, not just during Show week but throughout the year.
This leads me on to thank you for your support as a contractor and supplier this year. All contractors, whichever way you are involved, are considered as being very much part of the 'Show family' - hence the reason for me being a bit of a "nag' at times, because it is so important that the quality of what you provide, put up, take down, etc, reflects the high standard you and we expect to see.
The final visitor numbers are not yet known but from the car parks count, it looks as though we had a good Show. So on to next year. The Show dates will be 17", 18th and 19th May 2018, so please make a note in your diary.
With best wishes and, once again, many thanks to you all.
